EDENDERRY GAA PUBLIC PLANNING WORKSHOP
6th October 2015 @7.30pm
Edenderry GAA extends an open invite to the people of Edenderry to our Planning Workshop on Tuesday 6th October at 7.30pm in the GAA Pavilion. The purpose of the evening is to gather ideas from attendees regarding the best approach to developing our lands over the coming years.
Background
Since acquiring new lands in 2014, our land holding now exceeds 18 acres and we wish to develop a masterplan to guide development for future generations. In April the club appointed Cummins + Voortman Architects to begin the process of drawing up plans. They were provided with a detailed brief for the project; to assess the needs of a rapidly growing club, provide additional playing facilities as a priority and also to examine the long-term development of the Clubhouse along with provision for the redevelopment of Edenderry Swimming Pool.
For many years our existing facilities have served us well and previous generations had the foresight to be ambitious in developing the club. However, the rapid growth and success of the club in recent years has left us with a facilities deficit. Since 2008 we have continued to make improvements to our facilities but the purchase of additional lands has given us the opportunity to provide for future generations. Additional pitches, floodlights, all-weather area, ball wall, walking/running track, gym, bar & function room etc. are all options but we need to hear what the membership and wider community would like to see built.
Other Clubs
This development potentially offers opportunities for other clubs to get involved, already we are in advanced discussions with Edenderry Swimming Pool regarding a major redevelopment of its Facilities. We would encourage other clubs in Edenderry, particularly newer clubs to come and explorer the potential to development partnerships for mutual progression. We have a blank canvass and wish to examine all options!
Public Involvement
Our invitation on the night extends to the wider community and we expect attendance on the night from local Councillors, School Staff, Local Residents, Parents, Local Businesses and of course the GAA membership. We feel it is critically important that as many people as possible ‘Have Their Say’ before our plans advance to the next stage. There may be a big bright idea out there that will be beneficial to our plans or people may have thoughts on what elements we should prioritise for development.
Earlier in the summer we had an on-line survey that proved important in informing our Architects about their initial proposals and we are seeking similar input and feedback on Tuesday 6th of October. Our Architects will present their initial ideas and by working in groups we are expecting the attendees to critically analyse the options. The evening will commence at 7.30pm sharp and conclude at 9.00pm sharp – 90 minutes of combined brain power to get the result we need.
In the week that Edenderry are preparing for yet another County Final appearance, demonstrating on the field excellence, we want Tuesday 6th to be the beginning of off the field excellence! See you there.
