Edenderry GAA are delighted to announce the appointment of Ciaran Breen as the Club’s new Games Promotion Officer (GPO).
A native of Edenderry, Ciaran comes from a family with deep generational ties to the club. He played both football and hurling with Edenderry at underage level and continues to represent the club with the adult teams. In addition to his strong club background, Ciaran also represented Offaly at underage inter‑county level from U14 through to U20, gaining valuable experience within county development and high‑performance environments.
Ciaran is a graduate of the BSc Sport & Exercise Sciences programme at the University of Limerick and is currently completing an MSc in Sports Injuries and Return to Performance Management at Setanta College. He brings a wealth of experience from both elite and grassroots sporting settings, having worked with Leinster GAA, Offaly GAA, Limerick GAA, Munster Rugby, and a number of GAA and camogie clubs in roles spanning strength & conditioning, athletic development and games development.
In his role as Games Promotion Officer, Ciaran will be responsible for increasing participation, strengthening the school‑to‑club pathway, and raising player development standards within Edenderry GAA, in line with the GAA National Games Development Framework.
A major focus of the role will be primary school engagement, with Ciaran delivering structured coaching programmes in local schools from Tuesday to Friday. These sessions will be fun, inclusive and age‑appropriate, aligned with Go Games principles, and designed to develop skills while encouraging children to progress into the club’s nursery and juvenile teams.
Ciaran will also have lead responsibility for the club nursery, CÚL REDZ, every Saturday morning. This role is central to creating a positive first experience of Edenderry GAA for young children and their families, with an emphasis on enjoyment, fundamental movement skills and long‑term participation.
Another key element of the role is player recruitment and pathway development, ensuring smooth and supported transitions from school to nursery, nursery to Go Games, and onward through the juvenile age groups. Ciaran will work closely with the Juvenile Committee, team coordinators and coaches to maintain strong communication with parents and volunteers.
In addition, Ciaran will act as the lead driver for age‑appropriate Strength & Conditioning standards across all juvenile teams. This includes supporting coaches with warm‑ups, load management, physical literacy and injury prevention principles, while ensuring all activity is safe, progressive and appropriate to each player’s stage of development.
The role also includes the organisation and delivery of key club activities such as the Easter Camp, the annual Primary Schools Blitz and Finals Day, coordinating the Cúl Camp in conjunction with Offaly GAA, and supporting coach education workshops, particularly at nursery, U8 and U10 levels.
This appointment reflects Edenderry GAA’s continued commitment to participation, player welfare and long‑term development, underpinned by strong links between the club, schools and the wider community.
Everyone in Edenderry GAA is delighted to welcome Ciaran into this important role and wishes him every success as he begins his work with his home club.
Beir Bua.
