St Patricks 0-5 St Michaels 2-16
St Patricks had few excuses in this first round clash as St Michael's were by far the superior team on the day. Missing up to six players didn't help St Patrick's cause but they will have a second bite of the cherry this Sunday against Shamrocks.
St Pat's took the lead after just thirty six seconds when Mark Young pointed a free and this was quickly followed up by a long range Peter O'Neill point. St Michael's hit back with four points but in the sixteenth minute a great move started by full back Dan Moloney, with help from Mark Young and Daniel Nolan, led to a great score from Ciaran Hurley.
St Michaels pointed immediately from the kickout to restore their two point lead and in the twenty seventh and twenty eight minute they added two further points.
Half time:
St Patricks 0-3 0-7 St Michaels
St Patricks started brightly in the second half with a Mark Young free after two minutes for a foul on Ciaran Hurley. With only three points between the sides now it looked like game on but within a minute it was game over. A goal from St Michaels in the third minute effectively ended the game as a contest and they also added six further points without reply.
In the twenty first minute Stuart Cullen pointed St Patrick's last score of the game but St Michael's followed it up with 1-3 of their own to round off a miserable second half performance from St Patrick's.
One of the few consolations for St Patrick's is that only two players, Mark Young and Daniel Moloney, are over age next year so this is quiet a young St Patrick's team.
