U21 Championship
St Patricks 4-12 1-3 Shamrocks...........
St Patrick's got back to winning ways when they recorded an eighteen point win over a poor Shamrocks side. Pat's will have learnt very little from this win but it has allowed them to progress in the U21 championship where they will now take on Kilcormac/Kiloughey.
Sean Doyle opened the scoring after just fifty seconds after some good play from David Hanlon and Ciaran Hurley. In the sixth minute Dan Ryan added his first of the day to give Pat's a two point lead.
Two minutes later Sean Moriarty dispossessed a Shamrocks player and played a great ball to Derek Kelly who pointed St Patrick's third point of the day. Shamrocks registered their first score in the eleventh minute from a free but Mark Young scored a great goal to stretch the lead to five points. Sean Moriarty hit his first point of the game two minutes later and then a long range Mark Young effort was fluffed by the goalkeeper and rolled into the back of the net.
With four minutes remaining Shamrocks scored their second point of the game. Dean Cummins was introduced for the injured David Hanlon and it almost paid dividends when with his first touch he had a great shot saved by the goalie, but Dan Ryan was hand to tap it over the bar.
Half time:
St Patricks 2-5 0-2 Shamrocks
The game was over as a contest just one minute after the re-start when a Ciaran Hurley slip pass found Sean Doyle who rattled the top corner of the Shamrocks net. Further points from Sean Moriarty and Dean Cummins gave St Patrick's a fourteen point lead before Dean Cummins was fouled in the area and Mark Young converted the penalty kick after thirteen minutes.
St Patrick's then introduced James Mackey and Peter O'Neill for Mark Young and Stuart Cullen. Sean Doyle(2), Philip Farrell and Ciaran Hurley added four more points to the reds tally before substitute Jamie Dolan finished the St Patrick's scoring for the day. With four minutes remaining Shamrocks got in for a late goal to leave eighteen between the sides at the full time whistle.
