Sunday morning saw the last remaining Offaly championship for 2013 decided as St Michaels defeated St Patricks in Daingean to claim the under 21 football crown. Michaels who comprise of players from Rhode ,St Brigids and Clomore Harps have now won ten under 21 titles since 1999.
The two sides served up an entertaining hour of football in testing conditions, Michaels started best but Pats representing the Edenderry and Ballyfore clubs had begun to assert themselves when Donal Hickey form the net for Michaels. The reds responded almost immediately with a goal from Sean Doyle and half time saw the sides on level pegging. The second half saw Michaels move up a gear and their use of procession and scoring power in wet conditions was instrumental to their victory, nine minutes into the half Paul McPadden bagged their second and although Pats continued to battle hard they found scores hard to come by and in the end Michaels ran out five point winners.
