U16 Championship result:
Edenderry 2-6 3-14 Shamrocks
Edenderry U16’s suffered a heavy defeat on Monday night when they took on Shamrocks. A dreadful first half display which saw the reds trail by eighteen points at half was the main contributing factor because they showed a fighting spirit in the second half and out-scored their opponents by 2-3 to 0-2.
However the damage had been done in the first half and Edenderry will be disappointed with this result. Shamrocks started the game with the aid of a strong breeze and where two points to the good after four minutes. Mikie Clear pulled a point back on seven minutes for the reds after some good link up play with Daryl O’Connor and Ciaran Farrell. However Edenderry failed to score over the next twelve minutes while Shamrocks hit 2-4. Alex Kenny pointed from a free on the nineteenth minute but just one minute later Shamrocks got their third goal. In the remaining nine minutes Shamrocks scored six points while Aaron McDonald hit one for Edenderry late on.
Half time:
Edenderry 0-3 3-12 Shamrocks
Edenderry had left themselves way to much work to do in the second half but they certainly did try to make amends with the effort and work-rate increasing dramatically. Alex Kenny scored a goal from a free after two minute and on eight minutes Shamrocks scored a point from a free. Alex then sent over a point from a free after a foul on Aaron McDonald. Ciaran Farrell grabbed a goal for the reds on the eleventh minute after some great work a great pass from Mikie Clear. Shamrocks hit their second point in the fourteenth minute and that would be their last score of the game. Alex Kenny kicked two late points for the reds to reduce the margin to eleven points but overall it was a disappointing night for the reds.
