Edenderry… 4-22
Clara………. 2-03
Edenderry U16’s were back in Championship action on Monday night and recorded a massive twenty five point beating of Clara. There was just three points between the sides at half time after Clara scored a goal in the twenty ninth minute but in bizarre fashion Edenderry also hit the post no less than seven times.
Jamie Dolan opened the scoring after just twenty seconds after Alex Kenny played him through. Daryl O’Connor doubled their lead after two minutes and Edenderry were well on top. Clara registered their first score of the game after five minutes from a free but it was quickly cancelled out by Ciaran Farrell again after some great play from Alex Kenny. Clara responded well and managed to score a great goal on eight minutes to give them a one point lead and it took Edenderry until the thirteenth minute to equalise when Alex Kenny pointed from a free. Just one minute later Ciaran Farrell was first to react to a Oran Lawton effort which struck the post and Farrell made no mistake finishing the ball to the back of the net.
With twenty minutes gone Clara pointed their second free but a late flurry of points from Adam Mahon, Ross Mangan and two from Jamie Dolan appeared to give the reds a comfortable half time lead. With just one minute remaining Clara won a free and the shot was dropped short in the square but the ball struck an Edenderry defender and went in leaving the half time score 1-8 to 2-2.
While nothing is ever certain this game was effectively over after just three minutes of the second half. Edenderry started at a blistering pace and after just eighteen seconds Aaron McDonnell had pointed for Edenderry. Just thirty seconds later Alex Kenny added his second of the game and less than a minute later pointed his third. Mikie Clear and Jamie Dolan rounded off a great three minutes with a point a piece to leave double scores between the sides. On eight minutes Ciaran Farrell pointed again and two minutes later Aaron McDonnell scored a great goal to put twelve points between the sides. Two points inside a minute for Jamie Dolan brought his tally to six and two minutes later Craig Monaghan pointed before Leslie Nolan rattled the back of the net for Edenderry’s third goal of the game. With seventeen minutes gone in the second half Matthew O’Grady scored what was arguably the score of the game when he picked the ball up in the full back line and ran the length of the pitch and slotted over his first point of the day. Within two minutes Edenderry converted another four points, one from Leslie Nolan, two from Adam Mahon and one from Aaron McDonnell. Clara scored their first and only point of the second half in the twenty first minute and Stephen Connolly rounded off Edenderry’s scoring for the day when he scored a goal in the twenty fifth minute.
Edenderry will be delighted to secure another win in the championship and leaves them on course for the knockout stages. It was a great team display. The game was well refereed by Martin Carthy
