The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored Edenderry U16 Football Team secured there first points of this years league campain on Tuesday evening by beating Tullamore;
Edenderry 1-12
Tullamore 2-03
On a breezy evening we lost the toss & faced the wind ready for battle.From the start the young reds stepped up to the mark got stuck in worked hard as a team to get posession & retain it.Once we got to grips with conditions we moved the ball from defence to attack with pace & convictioin where our forwards worked to get into space & pick off some great scores.Tullamore for there part did have there chances & we can count oueselves lucky that there free taker wasnt on form as we gave away easy frees at times due to poor tackling.At the brake we lead by 1-05 to 0-03.
With the breeze on our backs in the second half the reds pushed on in the same fassion as the first half & were winning most of the individual battles in all areas of the pitch kept the scoreboard thicking over,the backs tightened up,midfield worked relentlessly & forwards showed an eagerness to get hands on the ball work as a unit.But with 10 mins remaining maybe due to fittness we hit a bad patch , failed to do the basics & allowed Tullamore in for 2 soft goals.But a quick re-group in true Edenderrt fasion we answered with 3 quick scores.
This is a step in the right direction for this group but there is still alot of hard work ahead, already they are showing all the attibruits for a promissing year once they keep going in the same direction.
On a very possitave note , the large crowed that was present in the GAA grounds was a joy to see this early in the year,& it was fantastic to hear all the postiave incouragement directed towards the players the club are delighted to see this & hope it continues as it makes it enjoyable for all involved from the players , management & officals.
