Update from U10 Coach - John McDonnell
On Sat June 28th last Edenderry U10's traveled the short distance to Co.Kildare club Eire Og-Corra Choill to participate in their 2nd annual hurling blitz in which teams from wexford, laois, kildare, dublin and of course OFFALY played games in wonderful conditions......first match for the reds was v GLYNN BARNTOWN (WEXFORD) loosing narrowly on scores 3-1.....scoring through out the day was on single score format ie goals/points count as a single score hence 3-1.....Next for the hungry reds were DUBLIN outfit LUCAN SARSFIELD, again loosing on scoreline of 3-1....last game of the group stage was against KILDARE club CELBRIDGE and what a humdinger of a game eagerly viewed by the parents and friends......The game had everything, long pucking goal-mouth scrambles, hooking/blocking and a never say die attitude associated by all teams decked in the glorious RED........jubilant scenes were witnessed by all as EDENDERRY were victorious on a scoreline of 5-4 and thus in winning the game were placed third in a very competitive group.....These players arent hurling long as a group, after that day was only there 2nd blitz of the year!!!!!!.......PROUD managers John McDonnell and Micheal Monaghan were proud men leaving the field and are both in agreement that a lot more is to come from these brave warriors from Edenderry.......super hurlers on the day were CRAIG MITCHIE JAKE AND BOBBY MOONEY Aaron KENNEDY CONOR HOLOHAN CILLIAN FORAN CORMAC BYRNE DAN MCBRIDE JASON MATHEWS.......THE MANAGEMENT ARE PROUD OF EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!!!!!
Monday 30th the reds traveled to Killkormac-Killoughey with a depleted squad and nevertheless produced a gutsy display of determined hurling, in which the form book was well and truly thrown out the window.....up first was CLARA and despite it all Edenderry won on a scoreline of 1-8 v 1-4......NEXT game after a gap of 10min was home club Kilkormac-Killoughey and although the game was reduced to 8-aside what a performance by the reds......in goals on the day was new member of the panel little angel ALEX EGAN who despite his stature held his own in goals and in a few tussles in the squared somehow squirmed out with the sliothar!!!!!!....defending the keeper was another new player in Marc Byrne assisted by Jason Mathews.....in the middle of the park was Marc's sister Shauna and ripping it up with them was the ever busy cillian foran....up front we had ben noonan and goal scoring supremo Aaron Kennedy who hit the net with a few min to spare.....and roaming allover the place was jack-n-the-box Dan Mcbride.......final score Edenderry 1-2 v 1-1 Kilkormac-Killoughey of whom were impressed with EDENDERRY'S performance and long pucking
Hopefully now this will spur more to come down and train with the u10s every Thursday @6pm...next blitz for the reds is on MONDAY 14TH JULY AT HOME.....THE MAMMYS ARE MAKING THE BUNS MAKING THE TEA SO COME ON DOWN THAT EVENING AND CHEER THE LADS AND LASSIES!!!! ON
