Division one:
Edenderry 1-10 1-7 Ferbane
Edenderry seniors recorded their third straight win with a three point victory over Ferbane on Saturday evening. With fifteen minutes gone in the opening half, the reds had stormed into a four point lead with scores coming courtesy of Sean Pender, Sean Doyle(2) and Stephen Guing but Ferbane responded with two points in the sixteenth and nineteenth minute.
Edenderry extended their lead to three points in the twenty second minute after a well worked sideline ball from Keith McGuinness, who played a quick ball to Mark Young, who passed back the veteran forward for his first score of the game. McGuinness added his second in the twenty fifth minute of the first half after some good link up play from Dan Nolan and Stuart Cullen.
Half Time:
Edenderry 0-6 0-2 Ferbane
The reds looked to have put this game to bed just forty seconds of the restart with a Keith McGuinness point but they failed to register another score for seventeen minutes. Ferbane took full advantage and four unanswered points between the sixth and eleventh left just one bewtween the sides before a Ciaran Hurley score allowed the reds some breathing space.
Three minutes later Edenderry again looked to have secured victory when full forward Peter Manley sent the ball crashing to the roof of the Ferbane net before points from Keith McGuinness and Sean Moriarty opened up a seven point lead with just seven minutes remaining.
Ferbane ensured a nervy finish with a goal of their own in the twenty sixth minute after the reds had conceded possession and Ferbane swept them aside with their pacy counter attack. The last score of the game came deep into injury time as Ferbane pointed to leave just three between the sides at full time.
Next up for the reds is Rhode on Thursday night away at 8pm.
