On Thursday night, November 15th former Offaly & Edenderry legend Peter Brady informed Club Chairman Willie Forde that after much consideration, he decided that he would be stepping down from his post as Senior Football Manager. After eight seasons in charge Peter owes the club nothing and has wished the senior players well for 2019.
He thanked all of the players that played under his management and wishes the current crop the very best in their endeavours and hopes to see them reach their potential. There was also special thanks to all of the selectors, assistants and the Committees of Edenderry GAA for all of their help and assistance along the way. His love of football and his club won’t see him out of the game for long as he hopes to be involved with an underage Edenderry management team in 2019.
Speaking on behalf of everyone in the Club our Chairman stated that;
“Words cannot begin to express our gratitude to Peter for his eight seasons in charge. One of our own clubmen putting his shoulder to the wheel at a time of our greatest need, delivering 2 Championships and a League title and leaving the team as a very competitive outfit.
His unrivalled passion for the Red jersey will be a loss to this group but we are delighted that he’ll be bringing his experience to our underage set-up.”
Edenderry will now seek to appoint a new management team to the senior set-up and build toward 2019.
The Club wish Peter and his family all the best and thank them for their recent contributions to the Club, but we know there is lots more to come from this legend – his story is set out below.
Peter Brady enjoyed a glittering career in the red jersey winning five senior medals in 1985, 1995, 1997, 1999 and as captain in 2001 aged 36 while he also helped Offaly to their first Leinster title in 15 years in 1997 and was part of the Offaly team that won the National League in 1998.
Incredibly, Peter and his father have been part of nine of the eleven championship winning sides in the clubs history. His late father Michael was a member of the 1951 & 1953 winning sides while Peter has seven championships to his name including the 2011 and 2015 as manager.
Both Peter and his father Michael were named on the 'Best XV' Edenderry team of all time in a club wide vote in 2011 and many people would be of the opinion he is arguably the clubs greatest ever footballer. Peter's passion for the red jersey was never in question and everyone at Edenderry GAA would like to wish him the very best in the future.
