U21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
St. Patricks 5-13
Clara 2-10
A much improved Edenderry performance in Geashill last Sunday saw them power past Clara in the U21 Semi Final to book a spot in the U21 County Final for the first time since 1998! Conditions were much improved also and a determined set of Reds were on top all over the field, they will need to bring this form to Daingean next Sunday for the final against St. Michaels (Rhode).
An early penalty set the Reds up and Ciaran Hurley despatched the kick to be what was the first of three first half goals. After a commanding performance in the first 30 minutes the Reds led 3-06 to 0-06 at the break.
The enthusiasm and work-rate shown by the Reds in the first half continued after the break and they dominated large parts of the play in the second half also. Through the middle third of the game a goal spree commenced, Clara struck for a goal and almost immediately the Reds hit back through Dean Cummins. The same thing was to happen moments later when Aaron McDonnell responded to a Clara strike.
Some fine points were added by Ciaran Hurley, Adam Mahon, Alex Kenny and Peter O’Neill as the Reds resumed total control of the game and finished with a 12 point win.
All roads lead to Daingean next Sunday as the Reds look to lift the title for the first time since 1998.
