SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
SFC Q/F
Edenderry 1-13
Gracefield 1-12
Edenderry booked their spot in the Semi Finals of the Offaly Senior Championship for the 3rd year in succession. The Reds overcame a bright start and late rally from Gracefield to edge this one in O’Connor Park.
A blistering start by Gracefield saw them run into a 6pt to 1pt lead before Edenderry settled at all. Once Edenderry found their feet, they began to chip away at the scoreboard and eat into the Gracefield lead whilst playing against the wind. They got it back to within a point at the break trailing 7pts to 6pts.
Despite going 2pts down on the restart, the Reds began to exert their control on the game and stepped up the pace across the field. With some excellent point taking and a wonderful goal by debutant Oran Lawton put Edenderry 6pts up entering the final minutes. However so soft frees and a lapse of concentration by Edenderry allowed Gracefield back into the game and a goal in the final minute left the minimum between the sides. Edenderry held out to win on a score-line of 1-13 to 1-12 and book a spot against Rhode in the Semi Final.
A full report of the game is available elsewhere in the paper.
