Seniors suffer poor defeat to Tubber

Edenderry seniors were brought back down to earth with a bang after they suffered a shock six point loss to Tubber on Saturday last in the final group game.

Make no mistake about it, Tubber were full value for their win after a very poor display from the county champions and they will need to up their game ten fold when they take on Erin Rovers on September 8th in the quarter final.

Tubber started the stronger and led two points to no score after four minutes but two points from Ciaran Hurley in the seventh and tenth minute leveled the game. Tubber again took a two point lead but once again the reds leveled the game with scores from Keith McGuinness and David Hanlon after eighteen minutes.

Three unanswered points in the closing three minutes gave Tubber a well earned three point lead at the interval.

The reds came out of the traps the fastest in the second half and early scores from Derek Kelly and Dean Cummins had the reds within a point and looking likely to take control. But a combination of poor decision making and giving away the ball cost Edenderry valuable scores and Tubber punished them by clocking up two scores of their own. A Keith McGuinness free in the fifteenth minute reduced the deficit to two but just two minutes later Offaly forward Bernard Allen rattled Brian Quinlan's net to give Tubber a five point lead.

One minute later Tubber added a point and in the twenty sixth minute the added their final score of the game. A Derek Kelly free in the thirtieth minute left six between the sides at full time and rounded off a miserable day at the office for the reds.
