SFC Quarter final:
Edenderry 2-16 1-12 Erin Rovers
For the second year running Edenderry seniors have made the semi final of the championship where they will take on Clara in a repeat of last years county final.
Expecting a tough physical encounter, it was important for the reds to get their early scores and they did just that after just four minutes when full forward Dean Cummins received a pass from Mark Young and fired the ball to the back of the net. Keith McGuinness pointed from a free two minutes later after a cynical foul on Stephen Guing fourteen yards out.
Erin Rovers registered their first score of the game in the eight minute of the game but it was quickly cancelled out by a fantastic point from Stephen Guing. Points from Sean Doyle, Mark Young, Colm Byrne and Derek Kelly gave the reds a 1-6 to 0-1 lead after fourteen minutes. Edenderry won possession from the Rovers kick out and David Hanlon played a great ball into Dean Cummins who shot his second goal of the game.
Five minutes later corner back Sean Pender extended Edenderry's lead to twelve before the reds were reduced to fourteen men after corner back David Hanlon received his second yellow card in the twenty second minute. Sean Doyle pointed his second of the game a minute later before Erin Rovers scored their second and third points of the game in the twenty ninth munute. A Keith McGuinness point in the thirty second minute from a free gave the reds a 2-9 to 0-3 lead at half time.
Half time:
Edenderry 2-9 0-3 Erin Rovers
Sean Doyle hit his third of the game with just twenty four seconds but Erin Rovers were awarded a dubious penalty in the third minute which Alan Lynam duly converted. A free one minute later left nine between the sides but in the fifth minute Colin McNamara volleyed a ball over the to restore the reds double figure lead. Erin Rovers were enjoying more possession and pointed in the eleventh and fourteenth minute, either side of a Sean Doyle point.
Colm Byrne and Daniel Nolan pointed but Erin Rovers managed to score four points in eight minutes to leave eight between the sides. Keith McGuinness pointed his third free in the twenty seventh minute before captain Richie Dalton converted a long distance free in the twenty ninth minute. Two points in injury time for the Pollough men left the final score reading 2-16 1-12.
