Edenderry............2-15
St Rynagh's.........1-7
Edenderry seniors qualified for the championship quarter final for the third consecutive season after an eleven point victory of St Rynagh's on Sunday evening.
Despite what the score-line may suggest, this was far from a convincing display and the game was tied at half time at 1-6 a piece after Edenderry threw away a four point lead and had to rely on a thirtieth minute equaliser from Sean Doyle.
The reds made a blistering start to the game and led after eight minutes by four points with scores coming from Sean Doyle, Ciaran Hurley and Keith McGuinness(2). Rynagh's scored their first point of the game in the ninth minute and three minutes later they leveled the game when Edenderry were caught napping in defence and allowed a free man to gather possession, run at goals and ultimately slot the ball past Brian Quinlan.
Ryangh's then took the lead with two pointed frees but in the sixteenth minute Edenderry regained the lead with a goal of their own from midfielder Dean Cummins. Ryangh's weren't lying down and they hit Edenderry with everything, including two more points to go one ahead with eight minute remaining but Ciaran Hurley replied with his second of the game. With two minutes remaining Ryangh's again took the lead only for a Sean Doyle point to level matters at the half time break.
Edenderry 1-6 1-6 St Rynagh's.............
The second half started as poorly as the first half finished with both sides struggling for scores. Eventually after eleven minutes the reds got their act together and after a storming run from midfielder Richie Dalton he was fouled, allowing Sean Doyle to add his third point of the game, his first from a free. Rynagh's replied four minutes later to level the game once again but a point from the impressive Diarmaid Meleady put the reds back ahead before a second goal from Dean Cummins extended the reds lead to four points. Derek Kelly made it five just one minute later before further scores from Keith McGuinness(3), Stephen Guing and Ciaran Hurley(2) helped secure an eleven point win for the 2011 county champions.
Edenderry will be far from happy with their performance in the first 45 minutes of this game and they know they will need to improve 100% before their next match against Ballycumber if they are to seal their fourth straight win. On the day, Edenderry were best served by Sean Pender, Adam Mahon, Diarmaid Meleady and Stephen Guing.
