SFC Result:
Edenderry 1-13 2-10 Tullamore
Edenderry seniors began the defence of their county title with a hard earned draw with Tullamore on Sunday afternoon.
While Edenderry seemed to have the game in their hands a stoppage time goal from Tullamore's Shane Dooley had the reds trailing but for a late point from center forward Keith McGuinness.
The reds took the lead after two minutes with Sean Doyle pointing after some good defensive work from Sean Pender and Johnny Hurst. Tullamore quickly equalised through Declan Hogan but again the reds went in front with a point from Derek Kelly.
A Kevin Williamson point leveled matters but in the tenth minute Tullamore were awarded a penalty and Williamson slotted it away.
Edenderry didn't panic and points from Stephen Guing and Mark Young, either side of another Williamson point left two between the sides. In the sixteenth minute the reds were back in front after Richie Dalton played through Dan Nolan who riffled the ball to the roof of the net from distance. It's unlikely a better goal will be scored in this years championship.
A point from Derek Kelly in the twenty fourth minute but Edenderry two ahead but two points from Shane Dooley in the closing stages, one from a free left the sides level.
Half time:
Edenderry 1-5 1-5 Tullamore
Tullamore opened the second half scoring with Williamson again pointing for the blues but points from Mary Young and Keith McGuinness(2) gave the reds back a two point lead.
Tullamore were level after fifteen minutes but four points in two minutes from Keith McGuinness, Mark Young and Sean Doyle(2) put the reds in the driving seat and they looked set to take the two points, Two points from Tullamore looked but mere consolations but in the thirty first minute a long high ball into the square was tipped into the net by Shane Dooley.
The reds got an equaliser in the thirty third minute from Keith McGuinness after some good play with captain Richie Dalton to secure a share of the spoils.
