SFC round 3:
Edenderry 2-11 2-16 Rhode
Rhode came out on top by five points after arguably the game of the championship so far this year.
With six minutes on the clock, Rhode had raced into a 0-4 to 0-0 lead, points courtesy of Niall McNamee(3) and Paraic Sullivan.
Dan Nolan hit back for the reds in the tenth minute with a fine score and just three minutes later it was all square when a long ball in from Derek Kelly, resulted in a Dean Cummins goal. Rhode responded with points from Niall McNamee and Paul McPadden and in the nineteenth minute Anton Sullivan laid the ball on for Paul McPadden to fire home a goal into the open net.
Derek Kelly pointed from a sideline ball under the stand and Sean Doyle reduced the deficit to three a minute later. In the twenty second minute a Mark Dunne point put Rhode four in front but again Edenderry reduced the deficit with points from Sean Doyle and Sean Pender. A Niall McNamee pointed free in the twenty eight minute restored Rhode's three point cushion but David Hanlon replied a minute later with an excellent score. Rhode had the final say of the half with a point from Stephen Hannon.
Half time:
Edenderry 1-6 1-9 Rhode...
Rhode appeared to have this game over with when they scored 1-1 in the opening five minutes of the first half but credit to the reds they kept battling back and in the sixth minute Dean Cummins went highest once again and shot the ball to the back of the net. Further points from captain Richie Dalton(2), Mark Young and Keith McGuinness left the score reading 2-10 2-12 with nine minutes to go.
Edenderry were on top at this stage and a great move led to a Stephen Guing attempt on goal but unfortunately on this occasion Stephen's shot dragged to the left and wide. Rhode grew in confidence and notched up five points in five minutes while Edenderry could only muster up one point from Keith McGuinness in injury time.
