Legendary local junior football guru Peadar Nail has been tipped by cynical local bookmaker John 'Bully' Dolan as the 6/5 favourite to take the hot seat at Old Trafford following this morning's announcement that Jose Mourinho has been sacked.
Nail (62) is a veteran expert of all sports & renowned tipster and cynical local bookmaker John 'Bully' Dolan of Eclipse Betting stated that the junior league winning manager from 2010 is the preferred choice of the Old Trafford hierarchy.
"His record speaks for itself and Ed Woodward is a big fan, no doubt about it" Mr Dolan stated. Our sources tell us Ed Woodward was spotted leaving Scanlon's pub on JKL Street last night where he was believed to have held in depth discussions with Mr Nail in the smoking area.
(If appointed, Mr Nail is expected to assemble a strong backroom team)
Recently retired Edenderry footballer Colm Byrne, who is due to jet set around the world AGAIN in January, is said to have placed his travelling plans on hold amid interest in the Man Utd job as he heard they pay well. Mr Byrne told our reporter that he would certainly cancel his plans if he was approached by United and the few bob would come in handy.
"I could put the wages in the Credit Union and store it with my communion money" Mr Byrne reportedly said.
One potential stumbling block in any deal would be the issue of transfers. The previous three Man United managers have squandered almost €1bn of the clubs money and are not keen to spend anymore. However, local footballers Sean Doyle, Cian Farrell and Jamie Dolan are said to be just three of the names that Mr Nail could sign for free to help bolster the squad although all three are staunch Liverpool supporters and are unlikely to be well received at Old Trafford.
"The three lads are good ball players that's true but they've huge ambition to win stuff so going to Man Utd wouldn't be in their best interests" a spokesman for the senior footballers said.
Bookies odds:
Peadar Nail 6/5
Big Sam 7/1
Alan Pardew 11/1
Colm Byrne 22/1
Howard Webb 40/1
Andrew Forde 66/1
Brian Quinlan & Diarmaid Meleady as joint managers 120/1
Mark Young 250/1
