Former underage scoring sensation Daniel 'Red' Ryan, who declared himself the best player of his generation earlier this year, has stated his belief that he fully deserves to win the Junior A and Junior C player of the year award at this Saturday night's annual club awards night.
"If I don't win it it's only a cod of a racket. Sure I was easily the best player AGAIN this year. Both teams were at nothing until I came home from the Lebanon to straighten them out" the Curragh based soldier said.
Ryan (26) tore up the scoring charts at Junior 'C' level in the group stages in 2019 before earning a call up to the Junior 'A' squad which reached the county final for the first time since 2004. An 'injury' in the semi final victory over Rhode limited Ryan's involvement in the preparations for the final and he fully believes had he been at his peak fitness then Andrew Forde would have lifted the Cup on September 14th.
"The lads were always going to be up against it once I wasn't 100% and they knew that themselves. They put all their eggs in my basket. They know I don't track back or work hard but the lads don't mind because once they give me the ball they know I'll just win the game for them" Ryan continued.
Dan Ryan has been a mainstay of junior football in Edenderry over the past eight years but the flame haired 'Ronaldo of GAA' harbours ambitions of emulating his uncle Henry one day and winning a Dowling Cup for the reds.
"There's no doubt I'm good enough so it's just a case of getting my chance in 2020. Seriously, who is actually better than me on the senior team? Sean Doyle? You're having a laugh".
When informed of Mr Ryan's comments, Sean Doyle told our reporter "Maybe Red wouldn't have gotten injured if he hadn't been checking his wing mirrors while going for the ball".

Local bookmakers are offering odds as high as 60/1 that Dan 'Red' Ryan will even be mentioned at the awards night.
