Senior Championship round one:
Edenderry..............1-8
Ferbane.................1-12
A youthful Edenderry side started their SFC campaign with a four point defeat to reigning county champions Ferbane.
These sides met last September in the semi final of the 2019 but despite seven changes to the Edenderry side that played that day, it was certainly an improved performance with youngsters such as Lee Pearson, Briain Nolan and Jack Brady all making their debuts.
The reds trailed 1-2 to 0-0 after twelve minutes of play but managed to go into the half time break level 0-7 1-4. A sublime second half goal from youngster Rory Egan put the reds level for a brief period but a number of missed goal opportunities combined with a strong Ferbane finish to the game saw the reds etched out in the end. An injury time point from the very impressive Lee Pearson capped off a fine debut for the former Offaly minor captain but it meant the reds only converted two of their fourteen attempts in the second half.
Despite the defeat and while there is plenty to learn from, no player could be faulted for honesty of effort and it was a marked improvement from last years disappointing semi final defeat.
