Edenderry 2-7 3-9 Clara
Edenderry minors suffered their second defeat in less than a week when Clara visited Oakland's on Wednesday night. This was a relatively poor game with neither side setting the world alight but it was Clara's superior fitness and Edenderry's poor decision making in the final ten minutes that gifted the visitors the two points.
It took seven minutes for a score and it came courtesy of Jamie Dolan from a free. Clara responded in the thirteenth minute with their first score of the game. Both sides were struggling to find the target and both sides were certainly guilty of missing guilt edged chances but in the sixteenth minute Captain Sean Moriarty lifted his team when he smashed the ball to the back of the net.
Just one minute later Edenderry stormed into a six point lead when Jamie Dolan grabbed Edenderry's second goal of the game. The reds lead was cut in half in the twentieth minute when Clara walked through for a goal, Edenderry players guilty of not tracking their men.
Two Clara points either side of a Ciaran Farrell point in the twenty seventh minute left two between the sides at the half time whistle when perhaps Edenderry should have been holding a much healthier lead.
Half Time:
Edenderry 2-2 1-3 Clara
Within the opening three minutes Clara had the game level with two good scores but in the fourth minute midfielder Oran Lawton put the reds back in front with a good point. This was to be short lived as Clara's pressure forced the reds defence into making mistakes and a deflected shot resulted in a goal for the hawks.
A further point from Clara gave a three point lead but scores from Oran Lawton and Alex Kenny(2) leveled matters before a Leslie Nolan point gave the reds a one point lead after twenty minutes.
Edenderry failed to score in the final ten minutes when several promising attacks broke down but Clara were on hand to punish them registering three points between the twenty third and twenty eight minute. Deep into injury time a third Clara goal wrapped up what was in general a poor game from both sides.
Full time:
Edenderry 2-7 3-9 Clara
Edenderry will be very disappointed with this result but you only get out what you put in and so far this year, that hasn't been one hundred percent so there can be few complaints. On the night Edenderry were best served by Oran Lawton and Evan Kelly at midfield while U16 captain Adam Mahon once again delivered a fantastic performance.
