Edenderry 3-15
Clara 1-16
The Eden Claims Sponsored Minor Football Team has made it back to the County Final for the 2nd year running following an excellent win over Clara in Croghan on Halloween Night. Played under heavy conditions, the high scoring and standard of point taking from both teams was excellent.
The Reds will play Ferbane in the final in 2 weeks time.
Edenderry started well and with some strong tackling they took an early lead through good points from Cian Farrell and Jordan Hayes. But Clara showed how dangerous they were up front with an excellent point of their own. Cian Farrell then got his first goal of the game from a tight angle after great work approach work by Arron Moules. Clara were putting the Edenderry defence under massive pressure with the pace of their attack and this was further compounded with Andrew Maloney getting a black card.
Edenderry then introduced Sergio Camera into midfield and he made his presence felt straight away with some great runs through the middle. Edenderry also brought David Hughes in for Daryl O Connor who had just been yellow carded. The Reds were making great ground through the middle with Adam Mahon scoring two points coming into his own and exposing the space the Edenderry full forward line were making for him. Edenderry then scored their second goal when they worked a brilliant short free from Jordan Hayes to Alex Kenny who made no mistake with a brilliant low shot to the back of the net. The action was now coming thick and fast and with every score Edenderry got, Clara seemed to answer back. A goal for Clara resulted after a free was awarded against the Reds, some Edenderry indiscipline lead to the ref moving the ball forward and the Edenderry backs seemed to switch off and in a flash Clara had the ball in the back of the net after Cain Brereton had made a very good save from Clara’s first shot. Clara added two more points before the break to leave Edenderry just three point up at half time.
Edenderry started the second half with Jamie O Connor winning a brilliant breaking ball and Alex Kenny converting a brilliant free. But Clara would not lie down and again came back and only for Cain Brereton pulling off 2 top class saves, the outcome might have been different. Ciaran Farrell was now starting to get more involved and started finding Jordan Hayes who’s strong and selfless running stood out throughout the game. Right when the game was in the balance David Maloney started to give a master class in fielding and also added a brilliant point. Eoin Farrell also worked very hard and won lots breaking ball and providing a brilliant link between midfield and the forward line. Edenderry were now in the driving seat with Cian Farrell to the fore scoring a goal, Alex Kenny and Lee Hyland adding two monster points from distance. Final score Edenderry 3:15 Clara 1:16
While this was an outstanding team performance with Arron Moles, David Maloney, Eoin Farrell and Cian Farrell in particular, the team as a whole stood up on the night and worked as hard as they could. With two weeks to go to the final they will know they will need to replicate this effort again and indeed improve on it if they are go one better than last year.
Cian Farrell 2:3
Ciaran Farrell 0:4
Adam Mahon 0:3
Alex Kenny 1:2
Jordan Hayes 0:1

Lee Hyland 0:1
