To cap off a busy weekend the Minor footballers will contest Edenderry’s 4th Minor Final in 7 years. Following a heavy defeat in 2011 the Reds are seeking to land the title last won in 2007. The game will be played as a curtain raiser to the Senior final involving Rhode & Tullamore and this should lead to an excellent atmosphere at the game.
Our Minors have been exceptional all year, remain unbeaten in Offaly, and captured the Division 1 League Title earlier in the Season. The Management team of John ‘Baby’ Mason, Tom Lawton, Robbie Glennon and Adrian Mahon bring plenty of experience to the set up and are no strangers to the big occasion. Robbie Glennon brings the additional experience of a Minor Final win at O’Connor Park from 1997 and hopeful this will stand to the lads.
In fairness the team has been playing a beautiful brand of football and hopefully they can bring that form to the final and cap off a terrific season. However they will face a stiff challenge in Shamrocks, a team that knocked out the holders Ferbane/Belmont in the Semi-Final Replay. In fact Shamrocks have been somewhat of a bogey team for this group up through the ranks and the U12 defeat in 2007 still burns for this group.
The club are calling on all supporters to get over to O’Connor Park good and early to make their voices heard for this team and cheer them on to victory. We wish them the very best of luck and hopefully they can cap off a great weekend.
