A MEMORABLE NIGHT AT EDENDERRY GAA
The ‘Annual Night of the Reds’ which incorporated the Annual Awards night and launch of the Easter Rising lived up to its billing and proved to be a night not to be missed. Offaly legend and RTE Pundit Michael Duignan acted as MC for the event and proved highly entertaining.
A host of Awards were made on the night including;
Minor ladies player of the year: Ciara Brady.
Minor player of the year: Mark Abbott
U21 player of the year: Cian Lawton
Junior player of the year: Paul 'Ozzie' Cummins
Senior ladies player of the year: Kym Furey
Junior hurler of the year: Sean Óg Farrell
Senior player of the year: Ciaran Hurley
Supporter of the year: Peter Guing
Club person of the year: Christy Noonan
Hall of Fame award: Finbarr Cullen
In addition the Club recognised the outstanding service given by Pat Nolan over many years and Officially marked his election as Honorary Life President to join Eddie Kenny in the dual role.
Special presentations were also made to Seanie Farrell and Wayne Mooney. Seanie is emigrating to Spain with his wife Yvonne and the Club acknowledged his contribution on the night also. Wayne Mooney retired from Senior Football in 2013 and the Club marked that occasion and the fact that Wayne played every season with the Reds since 1996 uninterrupted. Padraig Foy a former team-mate of Wayne led a fitting tribute to one of the all-time Greats.
Some of the highlights of the night included the interviews conducted with Sean Óg Farrell and Finbarr Cllen by the one and only Michael Duignan. The interviews proved very insightful and highly entertaining.
Michael also interviewed John McDonnell and Scottish Shinty Player Paul Creighton (How travelled in full Highlands Dress) to mark the Official Twinning of Edenderry GAA and Glasgow Mid Argyall Shinty Club. John has big plans to develop a Celtic Festival around this twinning and some major announcements will be made soon on this venture.
This part of the evening was brought to a close by the Chairman Colm Cummins who thanked all those in attendance for their continued support. He spoke of the progress the club has made in recent years and how it has very ambitious plans to grow over the coming years. He called for continued support from the membership and highlighted that some major developments would be undertaken very soon and the committee will require the full backing of the people of Edenderry.
The Club has now successfully held an Awards Night over the last 4 years and all were in agreement that the best two were 2010 and 2013 both held in the Pavilion. Thereore the Committee has decided that in keeping with the Club Plan and Annual Awards will be held in the Pavilion and in the month of November each year – at the close of the season.
EASTER RISING PART II - LAUNCH
Michael Duignan, Willie Forde and Pat McBride were on hand at the Annual Night of the Reds to launch the upcoming night with their boxers present. There was much banter among the fighters and rival supporters and the 19th of April promises to be another excellent night at Edenderry GAA.
Well done to all of the organizing committee and officers on the night for their excellent contribution.
