Edenderry Ladies GAA Weekly Notes
Senior ladies league campaign continues
Our Senior ladies team were due to play their second game in the league away to Doon/Shannonbridge on Sunday last but as the home team could not fulfil the fixture the girls received a walkover. The girls’ next league fixture is Sunday week away against St.Rynaghs. Training continues indoors in the Secondary School Hall on Monday evenings at 8.00pm.
Offaly Ladies Under 14 and 16s.
The Offaly Ladies Under 14 and Under 16 teams of which Edenderry’s Gabriel Gorman is part of the management team began their championship campaigns on Saturday last. Both teams were drawn to play Louth in their first game in the round robin series and had to travel away to the St. Mary’s GAA grounds in Ardee in Louth for games against the home county. The girls were expecting tough opening games against the Louth teams and indeed the Louth U.16 team are one of the pre favourites to win the Leinster title.
The Under 14s were first up and the Offaly girls dominated the game from start to finish with the final scoreline finishing 7-15 to 2-0. On the panel from Edenderry was Orla Whelan, Maeve Brereton, Sarah Cummins, Nicole Farrelly and Eimear Lawless.
The Under 16s game followed immediately after and it turned out to be game of top class football with both teams giving their all. After a sluggish first half the Offaly girls really upped their game in the second half and ended up winning the game on a scoreline of 5-5 to 4-3. On the panel from Edenderry was Rebecca Gorman, Ciara Brady, Shauna Farrelly and Ciara O’Connor whilst Danielle Kavanagh was unable to play due to illness. Well done to both teams and all the girls and also congrats to Rebecca Gorman who has been appointed captain of the Under 16 team for the 2012 season
Championship Fixtures
The ladies Under 12 team managed by Fiona Brady and Liz Rickard kick off their championship campaign this coming Sunday against Rhode whilst our Under 16 girls team whose management team consist of Gabriel Gorman, Ronan Kavanagh and Sandra Blong also start their championship against Rhode on Sunday. Having won their championship for the past 2 years our Under 16 girls are aiming to do a three in a row which would be a fantastic achievement. We wish both teams the very best for the 2012 season.
Injuries:
With the games coming thick and fast for all teams in the coming weeks we wish our numerous players a speedy recovery from their injuries. We are delighted to report that one of those injured Orla Kelly is making great progress in recovering from her serious leg injury suffered at the start of the year. Orla will be an integral part of the minor and senior teams for both Edenderry and Offaly this year and we looking forward to having her back.
