Ladies Under 12 Championship
Edenderry Under 12 ladies played the final group game in the Offaly Championship on Friday evening last against Tullamore in Edenderry. Tullamore have blazed a trail this year at under 12 and were strong favourites to continue their winning ways. In the end the blues just about got the upper hand but only after a great battle by the young reds who despite their heroic efforts came up just a little short in the end. From the off Edenderry showed little respect for their more physical and experienced opponents and led for almost the entire game. With time almost up and Edenderry leading by 2 points it looked like the girls would pull off a major victory. However Tullamore managed one last attack and their skillful corner forward manged to sneak the ball into the net for the winning score and heartbreak for Edenderry. This was a great game of football played by 2 very committed sides and the girls will have learned a lot from this experience. The final score was 2-7 to 2-6. The girls will now play St. Broughans for a place in the semi final. Well done our huge panel of players who gave their all on the day. The panel was as follows: Aisling Blong, Alyssa Maher, Angela Brady, Aoibheann McAndrew, Aoife Kavanagh, Ashley Farrelly, Chloe Cronin, Chloe Pearson, Cliodhna Breen, Dawn O’Brien, Emily Lawton, Ellen O’Connell, Jesse Brereton, Joanne Lynch, Katie Rickard, Lucy O’Neill, Megan Callan, Niamh Brady, Rebecca McDonnell, Rhea Kelly, Saoirse Ankers, Sarah Rickard, Shaunalee Cooney, Shauna Farrell, Tori Fennessy O’Brien
Ladies Under 14 Championship
Edenderry under 14 ladies had a busy weekend playing 2 championship games in the space of 3 days. First up was a game against Tullamore in Edenderry last Friday as part of a double header with the under 12s. Despite a good start to the game Edenderry faded in the second half and Tullamore ended up winning on a score of 6-8 to 3-1 with the goals coming from Lauren Oglesby (2) and a wonderful solo effort from Nicole Farrelly. On Sunday evening the girls played against St. Rynaghs and ended up winning on a scoreline of 3-6 to 3-4 after a real quality game of football. The game ebbed and flowed throughout and the Edenderry girls never gave up at any stage and held on in the end to win a close encounter. The goals came from Sarah Cummins, Lauren Oglesby and Orla Whelan with every girl giving their all including substitute Aisling Kelliher who won a few vital frees towards the end of the game. Next up is the county semi final next weekend against Tullamore when the team will have a few regulars backed after they missed this weekends games. We wish the girls all the best as they aim to reach the county final in this very important Feile year.
