Juniors beaten in Ferbane

Edenderry juniors were beaten in Ferbane in their last league game Wednesday night. The reigning division three champions failed to secure the win they needed and it now appears unlikely that they will make the semi finals.

Edenderry were missing a host of players for various reasons including suspension, leaving cert and injuries but the players that took to the field put in a valiant effort. The reds were leading 1-4 to 1-2 with five minutes to half time but an injury to midfielder Peter O'Neill forced them to play the remainder of the game with fourteen men. Ferbane scored a goal and a point just on the stroke of half time to give them the lead at half time.

The second half was a little one sided with Ferbane using the extra man to great effect and midway through the second half Edenderry tired but to their credit they battled right until the final whistle. A late David Hanlon goal from 30 yards was the highlight of the second half for Edenderry and overall the full forward put in a great display throughout the game.

It is disappointing for the juniors that they were unable to reach the knockout stages in 2011 having won the competition in 2010 but three defeats in their last three games proved very costly.
