Junior 'C' sensation Daniel 'Red' Ryan scored a crucial first half goal on his return to the Edenderry fold on Monday night having spent the last six months in Lebanon and the previous five years in O'Donoghue's bar.

The former child prodigy, whose biggest football influence is Mark Young, hasn't played in years after becoming allergic to training but he laced the boots on Monday night in order to help his beloved reds in the first round of the Junior 'C' championship versus Clonbullogue.

Speaking pitch-side to the Edenderry GAA website reporter after the game, 'Red' stated that his goal should come as no surprise to anyone as he was clearly the best player of his generation.

"I played with some average to decent lads over the years. Stuart Cullen was alright, but never passed it, Derek Kelly and David 'Rodge' Hanlon had their moments every now and then, but they'd be the first to tell you I was better than them all put together. Right, so the boys have 6 senior county medals between them, but could they do it on a cold February night in Pollough. I'll leave it at that" Ryan said before hobbling off to his car with feet full of blisters.

When pressed further as to whether this would be a one off return or if he was prepared to put in the hard training the junior 'C' management require, Ryan merely said he'd have to "check with the moth".

Despite a strong first half showing from Edenderry, the visitors ran out comfortable winners 2-16 2-9.
