JUNIOR ‘A’ HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Ballyskneagh/Killavilla 4-10
Edenderry 4-25
The DERMOT HALL Sponsored Hurling team rolled back the years with a vintage performance in Ballyskneagh on Friday last. The Reds racked up a huge score and hurled fantastically well despite having to travel 50 miles to the venue for 7pm on a Friday evening. The 100 mile round trip was somewhat cushioned by the 4-25 on the scoreboard.
Outside of a small lapse in concentration for a short spell late in the second half the Reds were always in control of this game. The errors made during this period helped to flatter the Ballyskneagh performance but will give the lads plenty to work on ahead of the final group game V Gracefield. With one game left to play in the group, Edenderry has secured a Q/F spot. A win over Gracefield will secure 3rd place in the group and a Q/F against 2nd place in Group 2.
The performance on Friday was at a high level from 1-15 and all subs used. Good to see Derek Egan back in goals following last years injury and his progress has been steady to date and with two games under his belt now hopes are high he will continue between the sticks. Fresh from his leaving cert results Jack Gormley pitched in with a few scores as did Sean Og Farrell and Cathal Nolan at midfield. All of the forwards got on the score sheet with Shane Kelly, David ‘Rodge’ Hanlon & Cillian Farrell combining well in the full forward line to contribute 4-13 to the Edenderry scoreline.
There is still plenty of hurling left in this team and hopefully a long season ahead. Next up will be Gracefield at home (game postponed due to weather a number of weeks ago). We’d encourage Edenderry supporters to get down and see this game.
