JHC Semi Final:
Edenderry 0-9 1-7 Ballinamere
Edenderry junior hurlers were beaten by a solitary point on Sunday morning in Gracefield in the junior hurling semi final. Having led since the sixth minute of the first half, the reds only surrendered their lead in the twenty eight minute of the second half when a '65 was dropped into the danger zone and Ballinamere got the goal to put them one point in front.
A pointed free in the opening minute gave Ballinamere the first score of the game but Cillian Farrell cancelled it out with a free of his own after a foul on Sean Óg Farrell. Another pointed free from Ballinamere put them back in front but points from Sean Óg Farrell, a Cillain Farrell '45 and a David Hanlon point put Edenderry into a 0-4 0-2 lead.
In the thirteenth minute Ballinamere pointed their first from play but two minutes later it was cancelled out by a Cillian Farrell strike. Another free in the nineteenth minute left one between the sides again but two more points from Cillian Farrell gave the reds a 0-7 0-4 lead with just two minutes on the clock in the first half.
In first half injury time Edenderry conceded two points, one from a free, and Ballinamere also missed another free to level the sides at half time.
Half time:
Edenderry 0-7 0-6 Ballinamere
The second failed to live up to the standard of the first half with both sides extremely guilty of bad wides and wasting possession. Stephen Murphy sent over a point in the third minute but it would take another twelve minutes for a score which came courtesy of Cillian Farrell sixth point of the day.
Unfortunately for Edenderry that would be their last score of the day and even though Ballinamere didn't score until the twenty fourth minute of the second half, a free once again, a '65 in the twenty eight minute was perfectly dropped into the danger zone and blasted to the back of the net to give Ballinamere a one point lead.
The reds battled hard for the equalizer but it just wasn't to be. Edenderry hurled very well in the first half and limited Ballinamere to just two points from play all game. The second half proved to be their downfall as they failed to register the crucial scores which may have finished off the game.
