Edenderry Ladies GAA held their second Helen Moriarty Memorial Blitz on Saturday last Sept 14th in Edenderry. The Tournament was held in honour of Helen (mother of current senior star Sean) who sadly passed away in late 2011 and was a former ladies club stalwart for many years. The blitz was for girls under 10 teams and consisted of 4 teams Carbury, St. Broughans, Naomh Molaoise and home team Edenderry.
The competition was played under the go games principle with emphasis on participation and fun and there was a feast of football for all the young ladies on the day which turned out to be a great success helped in no small way by the marvellous sunshine which prevailed throughout the day. The ladies club would like to thank the referees on the day Rebecca Gorman and Hazel O’Brien as well as all the parents and committee members who contributed to the wonderful catering on the day.
We were delighted to have all of Helen’s family attend to make the presentations and Helen’s husband Dominic presented all the players with a beautiful medals as their momento of the day. The Helen memorial plaque was awarded to the player of the tournament and this year it went to Ciara Walsh from Naomh Molaoise, Ciara who showed great heart and determination in her play, attributes which Helen would have been proud of and promoted, well done Ciara.
Big thanks to all over visiting clubs who took part and who joined in the spirit of the occasion. Those who lined out for Edenderry were as follows:
Amy Dunne, Katie Dunne, Amy Lynch, Casey Sheridan, Jessie Sheridan, Maria Doyle, Kellie Oglesby, Jenna Comerford, Shauna Comerford, Kiah Farrelly, Zara Rowe, Clodagh Farrell, Sophie Clancy, Philippa O’Brien, Sophie Leddin, Norah Larkin, Ava Flynn, Olivia Craig, Elyse Halligan, Ellie Maher
