Gooch Pulls Strings Against Harps

John 'Gooch' Gorman was pulling the strings against the Harps in a very wet Edenderry on Saturday last and scored 2-04 of Edenderry's total. In very poor conditions Edenderry looked a sure bet for a comfortable win following a strong opening half however losing Stephen Murphy to a Red card just before the break took its toll as the Reds ran out of steam late in the second half.

In a tough but fair encounter Edenderry made the best of their possession in the first half and a Jamie Dolan point opened the scoring for Edenderry to draw level with Clonmore. Then a well worked goal finished to the net by John Gorman upped the ante and Edenderry began to pull away. John added a further 4 points from long range frees before Clonmore following some wasteful wides added 2 points to their tally before the break. The score at the break was 1-05 to 0-3. Unfortunately for Edenderry Stephen Murphy was sent to the line for dissent before the break. Stephen's upset was understandable as he was clearly fouled before he was blown for over carrying.

Edenderry seemed to set up the win when John Gorman bagged his second goal just after the restart to put Edenderry 8 up. James Merrick and Jamie Dolan added further points but thereafter Edenderry struggled to gain traction and were wasteful in front of goals. In addition a propensity to lose the ball in the middle third of the field led to opportunities for Clonmore to keep the score board ticking over. Clonmore added 2 points before Michael Murphy drove his way through the Edenderry defense and bundled the ball to the Edenderry net. Andrew Forde received a nasty blow to the eye during this attack which forced him form the field of play. This was a loss to the Reds as Andrew was playing very well and the defense lost its shape at this point. Clonmore piled on the pressure in the closing minutes and scored the goal they needed before getting the final point of the game to draw level.

This is a game Edenderry will feel they left behind however they remain unbeaten in the League. They are yet to field a consistent team as injuries and County commitments are affecting player availability. However the potential for this team remains and they will continue to improve. On a positive note this game marked the debuts for Peter McNamara and Sergio Camara both of whom played very well. They take on Cappincur next Saturday away at 5pm.
