Edenderry GAA Golf Society Captain’s Prize Results 2012

The Edenderry GAA Golf Society (captain Niall Comerford) held their third outing of the year on Saturday last August 18th at the home venue of the Edenderry Golf Club. This outing was the much sought after captain’s prize and we had a wonderful turnout of over 30 eager golfers aiming to take home the trophy for 2012. Luckily the sun shone all day long and despite some damp underfoot conditions some tremendous scores were returned. As was always going to be the case the scoring was very tight at the top with Freddie Grehan proving our eventual winner. The early running was set by young Jamie Dolan who came in with a magnificent 37 points and that was setting a tough marker for the rest of the field. Operation Transformation star AdrianBrereton however managed to top that with a marvellous 38 points followed closely by Freddie with another 38, with Freddie taking the 2012 Captains Prize on the count back, well done to Freddie.

The three class winners all had to be on top of their game to win their respective divisions with local town commissioner Noel Cribben taking class A with 35 points, Jamie Dolan eventually setting for class B with his 37 points and former legendary player and current Bunbrosna manager Declan Farrell taking class C with 36 points.

First: Freddie Grehan 38 points. Second: Adrian Brereton 38 points

Class A: Noel Cribben 35 points Class B: Jamie Dolan 37 points Class C: Declan Farrell 36 points

Front Nine: Greg Farrelly 19 points Back Nine: Bill Corcoran 19 points

Nearest the Pin: Ger Foley Spot Prize: Ken Corcoran

The presentation was held in the GAA on Saturday night with music provided by the always excellent Mag Brady who kept the festivities going until the early hours of the morning. Well done to the hard working GAA Golf Society committee and to all involved for what was a wonderful occasion.

After 3 events our Player of the year competition is hotting up with a group of lads beginning to stake their claim for the title of the year’s most consistent golfer. Youth is leading the way with Jamie Dolan on top followed by Ciaran Farrell next but hot on the boys’ heels are Greg Farrelly, Noel Cribben, Greg Blong and Johnny Brady so it’s all to play for with one outing remaining.
