The Edenderry GAA Golf Society (Captain Niall Comerford) which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2012 has its second outing this coming Saturday July 14th in the wonderful Heritage Golf Course in Killinard just outside Portarlingon.
This outing is one for the early birds and the tee bank is booked from 7.30am to 8.30am. This superb championship course with the Slieve Blooms as a backdrop and which was designed by the late Seve Ballesteros is a wonderful setting and a great challenge for even the most natural golfers.
The outing is being sponsored by local businessmen and 2 Offaly sporting legends Finbarr Cullen and Sean Grennan.
Finbarr represented his club, county and indeed country in a long and distinguished career and will be remembered as one of the greats of the game. In a long and distinguished career amongst his achievements were an all Ireland minor hurling medal in 1989, 4 Offaly senior club championships with Edenderry and captain of Offaly when they won the 1997 Leinster Final and 1998 National League.
On his retirement Finbarr took over a well established public house in the square in Edenderry, a business he continues to run successfully to this day.
Sean Grennan is also no stranger to Offaly gaels having played with Finbarr in the All Ireland minor hurling win in 1989 as well as the great Offaly team of the late 1990s and he had a decorated career with his native Ferbane with whom he won 5 Offaly county championships.
Sean has run his very successful Midland Vetinary business in Edenderry for the past number of years and is currently based in Kishawanny on the Golf Club road.
We thank both Sean and Finbarr for their generous sponsorship of this event. Please phone 086 8821337 for further details of the Society and its outings
