Edenderry GAA Golf Society celebrates 10^th Year Anniversary

The Edenderry GAA Golf Society celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2012 and held its official launch night recently in the GAA centre. The society is looking forward to another exciting and eventful 2012 to mark the anniversary occasion. What began as a pub conversation led to the setting up of the society in 2002 for former players and friends of the GAA and the society is still going strong a decade later. With the year that is in it the society hope to see the return of some old faces as well as adding a few new ones to our dedicated crew and the hard working committee have once again secured some wonderful outings this year for all to enjoy.

The society is pleased to announce Niall Comerford as the captain this year and Niall is following the footsteps of some legends of the Edenderry GAA scene dating back to our very first captain in 2002 who was Finbarr Cullen. Indeed the list of former captains includes the surnames of great Edenderry GAA families and reads as follows:

We are also delighted to announce that Mickey Brady will be our Society President for a two year term staring in 2012, Mickey is one of the former greats who starred for Edenderry and Offaly throughout the 1950s and 60s and was voted left back on the greatest Offaly team ever as well as being one of the great gentlemen of the game. We welcome Mickey and we are looking forward to seeing him display is deft golf skills for which he is also renowned.

The society would like to pay a huge tribute to their 2012 sponsors without whom we could not exist and they are Willie Forde, Byrnes Oak Wood Inn, Greg Farrelly (GF Flooring), Finbarr Cullen, Sean Grennan (Midland Vetinary) and Freddie Grehan (Sporting and Special Events)

August 18^{th at} 11.00 am Edenderry Golf Club (Captain’s Prize)

September 29^th at 11.30am Moyvalley Golf and Country Club

Over the coming weeks all players will be receive their letter aswell as a pocket sized card containing our outing details for the year. We are looking forward to seeing young and old and we invite everyone to join us in as many of the above outings as possible in what we hope will be an enjoyable and eventful 2012.
