U16 semi final:
Edenderry 0-10 2-8 Ferbane
Edenderry U16's missed out on a place in the county final after the suffered a four point beating on Monday night at the hands of Ferbane.
In what was an extremely competitive and very entertaining game, Ferbane's two goals were the difference and they both came at crucial times in the game.
Ferbane were strong favourites going into the game but it was the reds who made the brighter start racing into a three point lead with scores from Jordan Hayes (3 mins), Lee Hyland (10 mins) and Conor Farrell. Ferbane hit their first score of the game in the thirteenth minute with a well taken point after an Edenderry attack broke down. Just one minute later a routine catch on the '45 was misjudged and the bounce beat everyone allowing Ferbane in on goal and they made no mistake with the finish.
In the nineteenth minute once again Edenderry lost possession and were punished as Ferbane scored their second of the game. Ciaran Farrell leveled matters with two great points in the twenty third and fourth minute but two minutes later Ferbane went back in front after taken a short '45 and firing it over the black spot. Again Ciaran Farrell pointed for Edenderry to tie the game with a minute to go but a late free in injury time gave Ferbane a one point advantage at the interval.
Half time:
Edenderry 0-6 1-4 Ferbane
Edenderry were right in this game at half time but straight from the throw and within ten seconds Ferbane had the ball in the back of the net to put four between the sides. Jordan Hayes reduced the deficit to three after three minutes but in the ninth minute a Ferbane point put four back between the sides.
Points in the elventh and twelfth minute for Ferbane increased their lead to six points but some great play from Mark Abbott and Peter McNamara put David Moloney through and his shot sailed over the bar. Ferbane pointed their last score of the game in the eighteenth minute and two Ciaran Farrell points in the twentieth and twenty third minute left four between the sides with seven minutes remaining.
Unfortunately for the reds they just couldn't find the scores and it was the men from west Offaly who ran out victorious. This was a fantastic game of end to end football with some real quality footballers on show for both sides. The game belonged to Ferbane but Edenderry can take great heart from their performance and the atmosphere was brilliant from the stand.
On the night all players served the red jersey well but the O'Connor brothers, Mark Abbott and David Hughes were very good in defence while Ciaran Farrell was a constant threat up front. But the effort from David Moloney and Peter McNamara deserves a special mention as they were both outstanding all night.
The club would like to thank the management team for all their efforts throughout 2012.
