Edenderry..........2-14
Bracknagh.........2-13
There were scenes of wild celebration at Rosderra Gaelic Park tonight as Edenderry's junior 'C' footballers completed an unbelievable comeback and claimed two valuable points in the race for a semi final spot in the championship.
Anything other than a victory would have saw the reds crash out of the competition but a late rally of points from former Offaly dual star Cillian Farrell ensured the victory deep into injury time.
Full forward Dean Cummins scored 1-3 and kept the reds afloat but it was obvious from the start that he was clearly missing his former strike partner Daniel 'Red' Ryan. The self declared best player of his generation was recently promoted to the junior 'A' team and Edenderry trainer Willie Forde said they were glad Cillian could fill the void left by the Defence Forces employee.
"Look right, Red Ryan. Sure he's unreal. Where would ya get someone as good him right? You couldn't even buy something like him at Eurospar Kinnegad and they have everything for God sake" Forde stated after the game.
"We know nobody could ever truly take his place right but we felt Cillian could do a job. He played a bit of ball when he was younger right, nothing quite as high stakes or pressurised as this, but he handled himself well" Forde said of the four time Dowling Cup and All-Ireland hurling winner.
The reds now play Cappincur on Tuesday night and if they win they will emulate the junior 'A' team by reaching the semi final stages.
Competition for places is at an all time high with substitutes like David Reynolds not even featuring tonight while youngsters Tony Kenny, Finbarr Cullen and Declan Farrell are all expected to be available for the clash of the titans on Tuesday night.
Mr Reynolds expressed his disappointment at not featuring but said he did get some cool photos after the game for his Instagram account.
