There was a huge sense of relief for the residents of Edenderry as it was confirmed by Landlord Damo Donoghue this morning that he plans to reopen his premises as soon as Daniel 'Red' Ryan boards a flight to the Lebanon today.
"Definitely I'll be reopening. I have Mark Young & Mucky McCabe sitting in the airport watching him boarding the flight and as soon as the wheels leave the tarmac I'll be back open" the popular publican told the Edenderry Topic.
Edenderry's junior football star Daniel 'Red' Ryan is set to embark on his second tour of the Lebanon from today and we briefly spoke to him before he left his home in Greenwood Park at the early hours of Wednesday morning.
"I can't wait" Red said. "I'll miss playing the junior because I'm that good it's really easy but sure it's a handy €30k to collect for doing nothing for 6 months" the trained killer stated.
"I have every penny saved from my last tour and I'm gonna save every penny from this tour too. I want to buy a fancy gaff and a nice big diamond ring for my woman when I get home. I'll probably have to sub Sadder a few pound too to keep him alive" Ryan said.
With restrictions set to be enforced on publicans around the country following the COVID-19 pandemic, local pint puller Damo says he has no fears or worries about reopening.
"It wasn't the pandemic that frightened us, it was Daniel 'Red' Ryan after 15 large bottles of cider".
