Development Update

A great amount of work has been progressing quietly in the background over the last number of weeks to ensure that Edenderry GAA is ready to turn the sod on the construction of its two new pitches this summer.

Our renowned Sports Turf Consultant Mr. Richard Hayden has had a busy few months working with UEFA preparing the pitches and training grounds for the European Soccer Championships and now he will be concentrating on a new number of GAA projects over the summer including Edenderry GAA. Working along side our Architects Richard has prepared a design and construction methodology to suit the conditions on our site. It is expected that a tender for the job will issue in the coming days and the successful bidder will be appointed in a matter of weeks.

On the planning front our detailed planning application is currently under preparation and due to the level of detail and number of buildings involved it will be an extensive planing pack. However, to ensure the preliminary pitch construction works can be carried out ahead of lodgement of the planning application we have confirmed with Offaly County Council that the works relating to the construction of the playing pitches is Exempted Development under Class 31 of the Planning & Development Regulations. This means that this element of the works does not need planning permission and can proceed ahead of the application. This is beneficial as the best period for carrying out these works is the months of July, August & September.

On the fundraising front, we have made massive progress with our Donations from our membership. There are over 170 persons, families or businesses signed up already. We still have more to collect and hope to break the 200 nark by the end of the month. The opportunity to get involved and sign up still exists and you may contact any of our Project Champions in order to arrange a sign up. We are seeking a ONE OFF donation of €250 which can be paid as a lump sum or in ten monthly installments of €25.
