Senior Football Championship continues next weekend
The SFC round 2 games will be played next weekend and it will be a very busy time for Edenderry GAA officials as the club will first play host to Gracefield & Walsh Island as they do battle at 8pm on Friday night.
It is many years since Edenderry hosted a championship game and many neutrals are expected to attend the game along with a strong following from the two competing clubs. Admission to the game will be €5 with U14s & Senior Citizens admitted free.
On Saturday evening Edenderry will be in action themselves as they play group rivals Erin Rovers in an eagerly awaited clash. Rarely is there more than the kick of a ball between these two teams & indeed the Reds had to recover from a shock draw in Round 1 in 2011 when the went all they way to lift the Dowling Cup.
First round defeats for both clubs means that the losers of this clash will be rooted to the bottom of the table after two games and could see their senior status under threat with some big clashes to come down the line.
All supporters are urged to travel to O’Connor Park for this game at 5.45pm. Admission will be €8 as the game is a double header with Rhode v Tubber at 7.30.

Ladies News
Ladies Under 12’s:
Edenderry Ladies GAA Under 12 team are county champions after defeating a gallant Clara team in the shield final in Clara on Saturday last June 8th.
This team has shown huge potential all year and were very deserving winners of some silverware. The game was played in a well prepared Clara field with the sun shining throughout and it was Edenderry’s fitness and strength which told in the end.
Edenderry started in whirlwind fashion with a quick point from outstanding midfielder Aoibheann McAndrew. However Clara were also playing good football and showed they were also intent on getting their hands on a trophy. After huge pressure approaching half time the decisive breakthrough and possible winning of the game came about when talented full forward Angela Brady (daughter of former star Peter) bagged 2 goals in the space of a minute to leave Edenderry leading at half time by 2-1 to no score.
The second half started just like the first with some great football played by both teams but Clara knocked in a brilliant goal and 2 points to edge closer to the young reds and at this stage it was nip and tuck. However spurred on by the magnificent midfield pairing of Megan Callan and her cousin Aoibheann and stylish centre forward Rebecca McDonell the Edenderry girls kicked on to close out the game with a few wonderful points, 2 from Angela Brady and one from Jessie Brereton and goal from Rebecca with the final score finishing 3-5 to 1-2.
Edenderry had stars all over the field and each and every one played their part and this team has huge potential if they stick together over the coming years.
Well done to all the panel members and indeed to the management team of Niall Comerford, Catherine Jones, Jade Oglesby and Eoin Dunne.
