Brady staying with Reds

FORMER Offaly and Edenderry star Peter Brady will remain at the helm of the county champions for 2012.

The news will come as a big boost for the reds as they bid to win back to back championships for the first time in their history.

Brady (46) led Edenderry from the brink of relegation in 2010 to the remarkable Dowling cup win in 2011 and has proven that his abilities weren’t simply confined to his feet as he masterminded one of the most unlikely championship wins in living memory.

Regarded as one of the best Edenderry players of all time, Brady won his first senior championship medal in 1985 before going on to claim four more medals in ’95, ’97, ’99 and ’01 making him the only Edenderry player in history to win five county medals. He captained Edenderry in the 1997 championship win over Ferbane and went on to receive the man of the match award in 2001 replay win over Rhode, aged 36.

Unfortunately for Brady he was at his very best when Offaly were at one their lowest ever ebbs in the early ‘90’s but all his hard work would eventually pay off when Offaly beat Meath in the Leinster final in 1997 when along with Vinny Claffey and Roy Malone formed a formidable full forward line that ‘chalked up 3-8 of Offaly’s 3-17 that day. In 1998 he added a National league title to his collection.

Last summer the Edenderry manager was named at number nine alongside 50’s legend Sean Foran on the Edenderry ‘Best 15’ of all time.
