The juniors hurlers take on Drumcullen on Monday evening in Edenderry in the first round of the junior championship. We take a quick look back at the last time the sides met, July 17th, 2011.
Edenderry 1-7 1-11 Drumcullen..........
Edenderry hurlers suffered more heartache with their third defeat in as many games this past Sunday against Drumcullen.
Drumcullen opened the scoring from a pointed free which was cancelled out just thirty seconds later from a Ger Hanlon point. A minute later Ger Hanlon pointed again to put Edenderry a point ahead. Edenderry then took control of the game and points Bill Glennon, Eoghan Kelly & two from Ger Hanlon gave the reds a four point lead. The reds appeared to be cruising into half time but in the first minute of injury time Drumcullen scored a goal despite a brilliant initial save from Brendan McCabe.
Half time: Edenderry 0-6 Drumcullen 1-2
The goal knocked Edenderry for six and within the first five minutes Drumcullen had scored two points to put them a point ahead. Eoghan Kelly levelled after nine minutes but it would be Edenderry's last score until the twenty sixth minute. Drumcullen hit three points in the mean time to give them a three point lead but Edenderry got back level when Ger Noonan scored a goal with just four minutes remaining. However it was not to be Edenderry's day and Drumcullen pointed four late scores to give them a comfortable win.
Edenderry will be very disappointed with this loss as it leaves them pointless after three games.
