Edenderry under 16 girls played the semi final of their championship
against Rhode in Rhode on Monday last May 21st.
The girls had been impressive in the group stages winning all three
games and they brought that form with them into this game defeating Rhode in
the end by 5-12 to 1-7 with another very impressive display. As is the norm for
this team Edenderry were out of the blocks early with Rebecca Gorman scoring
the first point of the evening which was followed closely by 4 goals in a row,
2 coming from the scoring machine full forward Shauna Ward and one each from
Claire Connolly and Jade Oglesby. However as with every Rhode team their girls
were not going down without a fight and managed to keep the scoreboard ticking
over with 6 points of their own and after half time Rhode showed their
intentions with a quick 1-1 without reply However the Edenderry girls then
knuckled down with a workmanlike performance from then until the end of the
game scoring a further 1-8 to close out the game with the goal coming from
Niamh O’Connor and impressive centre
forward Megan Moore closing the scoring at the finish with a fine point. Once
again this was a tremendous all round performance by each and every player including
our 5 substitutes and the girls now take a break with a county final to look
forward to after the exams, a game they will be strong favourites to win and
complete a three in a row. Well done to the girls and the management team of
Gabriel Gorman and Ronan Kavanagh.
