Minor League

Edenderry 1-09 Rhode 1-08

Edenderry and Rhode played the first round of the 2020 minor league at Rosdera Weavers Fields on Sunday morning, which was in top class condition considering the weather of late. Rhode settled into the game quick and went a goal ahead playing against a strong wind. Edenderry began to come into the game after the goal. Dylan Byrne got the Reds on the score board first with a well taken point, followed up two quick points from Mark Forde and Cian Murphy to bring the game level. The game was very even for a long periods until Rhode took the lead again. With ten minutes remaining Ben Whelehan got it back on level terms and then a great team worked goal by Dylan Byrne put Edenderry into the lead coming up to half time.
At half time the score was Edenderry 1-04 Rhode 1-01.

Rhode playing with the wind started the strongest in the second half and brought the game back to one point. Edenderry then hit back with a pointed free from Micheal Brady. Again Rhode hit back with another point to make it a one point game. Edenderry went two points up with a point from Mark Forde. The game was end to end with both teams working really hard. Edenderry went 3 points up with a point from Micheal Brady. Rhode then began to come into the game and take over scoring two points in a row to bring the game back to the minimum. Edenderry had to dig deep in difficult conditions and came up with another point from Cillan Lowry. Rhode again hit back with a fine point and with five minutes remaining the game was well in the balance with just one between the sides. Edenderry scored another point from play by Mark Whelehan to give the Reds a bit of breathing space coming to the end. Rhode had the final score but it was the Reds who came out on top by a point. Great credit must be given to both teams for playing what was a very hard, entertaining and fair game for what was both teams first outing of the year.
