Edenderry GAA Golf Society – CAPTAINS PRIZE

The Edenderry GAA Golf Society 2013 Captains Prize (Noel Cribbin) was held on Saturday last at the local Edenderry Golf Club. This event was generously sponsored by Edenderry GAA Club and by Noel himself  and the day turned out to be a fantastic occasion with some superb scores returned despite the inclement weather towards the end of the play for most of the crew. After all the scores were totted and checked by the Society’s hard working committee we had 2 players on the marvellous score of 44 points with current senior star Stephen Guing just edging out your minor player Alex Kenny on the count back to the take the coveted prize of captains prize winner, well done Stephen.

The full list of winners on the day were:

Overall Winner   Stephen Guing (44 points)

Class A Alex Kenny (44 points)

Class B Peter Brady (36 points)

Class C Joe Murphy (38 points)

Front Nine  David Farrelly (19 points)

Back Nine Seamus Brereton (21 points)

Nearest the Pin  Seamus Brereton

The presentation of prizes took place in the Golf Club after when Noel congratulated all the winners and thanked all who took part on the day. Noel also announced the incoming captain for 2014 and we are delighted to say that current senior player Colm Byrne will be taking the reins and we wish Colm all the best in his role. Colm will become the youngest ever captain of the society and he intends to draft in a number of current players in order to challenge the ‘old lads’ who have been the heart of the society since its inception. The society will also have a new president next season with Freddie Grehan taking over from current president Mickey Brady. Freddie is a former legend who played for the reds for many years and is also a past captain of the society. We wish Freddie all the best as new president and we thank Mickey for being a wonderful president for the past 2 years. Well done to Noel on a fabulous day and we look forward to the final outing for the season which will be in Athlone Golf Club and will be held in 4 weeks time on September 21st , a date for your diary.
